"Sunday 9 October
Slept in slightly, went to Covent Garden to see the Pearly Harvest festival: neat photos and a pipe and drum band. Thence to Greenwich via DLR through the Docklands. Very Sci Fi feel to the docklands.
"Ate at a greasy spoon Chinese place, then walked to see the Greenwich Old Royal Naval Hospital / College Chapel and Painted Hall - amazing.
"Walked up to the Observatory and saw Herschel's stuff along with Flamsteed's house. Harrison's chronometers on display in a dark room. Camera obscura pointed at Royal Hospital Grounds. Went to planetarium for only a few minutes, then to the Nautical Museum.
"There was a special exhibit High Arctic (no photos allowed, unfortunately) - which was a bunch of uniquely programmed projectors with UV sensing. UV flashlights were given at tour start to interact. Covered with box arrays of peaks. Strange music and dialogue were present. Rest of museum not what I was expecting - only ship models of RN. Good exhibit on the East India company; disappointing exhibit on NW passage although Franklin mentioned and artifacts present.
"Tired, tube back via Canary Wharf. Tube out to Picadilly Circus, walked past Leicester Square back to Covent Garden and ate dinner. Home again, Cambridge tomorrow."
