In spring-time and summer the polder is used by farmers to grow mais, for haymaking and cows and horses graze here.
This is a"potpolder" as it his completely surrounded by dikes but near the river over a distance of 200 meter it is deliberately lowered to allow for controlled inundation when the water-level in the Schelde is too high.
Consequently in nearby villages the risk of a flood is reduced
