6/12/08 - Magnolia & Bug

A spent wax leaf magnolia blossom and a yellow beetle. I went to shoot the prime white blossoms but the bright sun & shadows were working against me. This spent blossom - a golden brown color made more so by the warm sunlight and my cloudy white balance setting - turn out to be the keeper for the session.

Oh, those spots and dots and dark arcs are just great fun.

I especially like how the ladybug seems to me coming "home"!

And definitely prefer this version over the spot color rendition, because it's so strong there's no need to make the connections more more obvious. The sense of discovery is like winning a prize. :)
