1/22/08 - Through the Window

A change of seasons and scenery. In going through images from this summer's trip to a Freeman Patterson workshop, I came across a lot that I had never gotten around to processing - like this one.
I enjoy shooting shots like this that have really extreme tonal contrasts for the challenge of trying to get detail across the entire tonal range. I normally shoot at least two - one exposed for highlights & one for shadows - and combine them using a tonal contrast mask. This one is done with a single image and a lot of Capture NX2 highlight/shadow recovery processing. It looks OK for the web, but a print at any but a very small size would show the extensive noise in the shadows.
