Shenandoah National Park - 30 degrees F, Wind gusts to 30-40 mph, rain, slush, big time fog with visibility of 2-3 car lengths at times on Skyline Drive. Fun! Apart from park personnel we saw less than 10 other nuts over a 6 hour period.
This is straight from the camera (D300). It was not shot B&W - there just wasn't any color. I was standing under the rear door of the van trying to keep the lens dry from a mixture of rain/snow/ice - my wife called it slush. Peering through the viewfinder as I panned through the trees and weeds, this view grabbed my attention. Sharp as a tack branch with trees no more than 20-30 feet away appearing as ghosts in the fog. Ice on the branch gave a nice stark black/white contrast.
