Did I ever mention how great it is to shoot in rain and fog? Gotta' love the way the road mysteriously disappears into the autumn mist. What's down (up, actually) there? This scene, on a sunny day, is a bust.
Looking north near milepost 8 on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. First time there since returning from the photo icons of the western national parks. It's good to be home. The scenery in places like Tetons and Grand Canyon is more spectacular, but often times there you're making an ordinary image of an extraordinary scene. I prefer trying to work it the other way around and shoot for extraordinary images of more ordinary scenes. Really got tired of standing shoulder to shoulder with folks in the western parks - all shooting the same shot. Should've just bought myself postcards. The photo guide books don't describe scenes like today's PAD nor the the seasons & conditions when they're special - nor do many of us have the luxury of waiting and watching for the right season and condition UNLESS it's in your own backyard like Shenandoah is for me.
A question - do you find the small branch sticking down from the top center distracting? (If you're looking for it - it's gone through the magic of cloning. Thanks, April.)
