9/19/07 - Tree on the Prairie (Ed)

Another 12 hour day behind the wheel; today from Sioux Falls, SD to Cody, WY. Tomorrow I leave for 5 days at Yellowstone & Grand Tetons from here - 50 miles from Yellowstone's east entrance. Staying at the Flagg Ranch midway between the two parks - on the Snake River.
Took this from the edge of I-90 in South Dakota. The great plains are amazing - photographically it's virtual nothingness as far as the eye can see, but beautiful nevertheless. Spotted this tree in the middle of the prairie. Where did it come from? Trees are "social entities"; they don't spring up from nothing. Probably from those trees in the distance.
Took this out of sheer desperation. Over 2,000 miles of driving in three days without my camera was getting to me. Better things tomorrow, I'm sure.

Great shot. The touch of green is wonderful. Nice framing

Getting a jump on the "assignment"? ;-)

It's lovely, and I can't imagine 3 days without shooting but passing such fantastic scenery!

Exceptional, Ed ... captures the vastness of the plains. Voted
