Why are such a high percentage of my images are in a vertical format (Freeman Patterson stated that the "average" was 15% and I've posted 17 vertical PADs in June out of 29 total)? I shoot lots of flowers; especially in the spring and summer. Flowers mostly grow UP and not sideways, and so vertical seems to be the natural/normal orientation for a flower image.
Verticals are easy to set up if you use a sturdy tripod (Gitzo), a good ball head (Kirk) and an L-bracket on your camera body (Kirk & Really Right Stuff). In fact, with this gear you can basically shift back & forth without having to do much if any recomposing since the camera focal point will remain more or less fixed from one orientation to the other - not like what happens without an L-bracket and you flop the body over 90 degrees.
