9/20/06 - Pine/Birch Montage

Sandwich of two images - 1) my favorite lonesome pine at Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park & 2) peeling white birch bark. I must have at least 100 birch bark images that I shot in the past week or so. Getting one that looks good and fits (theme and space) the main subject is a lot harder than I would've thought.
Won a ribbon last night with this oak/birch montage - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/66431004 - but I'm just "fooling around" with competitions this year. Just entering an image or two in the new digital projection category - and only images that I like. I decided to "quit on top" after my big year last year when I got upset with myself for "shooting for the judge" in order to win. This year I'm entering fun "arty" stuff like today's PAD and who cares if the competition judge likes it or not. The most important judge is yourself. At least based on this first competition of the year, it's a lot more relaxing and fun this way.
