Just testing my new focusing rail on the nearest target of opportunity. There are a lot more poppy images that I really like, but after four days of poppies it's time to move the PAD elsewhere.
This little flower is about 1/2 inch (1.25 cm) across. I set my Nikkor-Micro at 1:1 (which with the 1.4x TC made it a bit larger than life size). Then came the experiment - using the focusing rail to focus the camera rather than adjusting the lens (and thus moving away from the 1:1 setting that I wanted). It's going to take some getting used to but I can tell already that it's easier and more effective than trying to slide my 6-7 pound camera/tripod combination a millimeter forward/backward and left/right - what a surprise.
This image wasn't enlarged any by cropping; I just snipped the ends from the frame but left the width unaltered.
