Apart from dahlias, winding country roads are another favorite photo subject of mine. Yesterday it was alternating between mist (clouds), drizzle and clear up on Skyline Drive. Still not much color (although that's true up there throughout the fall foliage season since the dominant tree is the oak which tends to yellow/rust/brown). Dark, foggy and raining at 6:30 when I entered the park to get some sunrise shots. Hah.
Old Rag is the name of a mountain in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. The PAD photo is a fire road (for access in case of forest fires, otherwise hikers only - no vehicles) that starts on Skyline Drive near milepost 42 in Shenandoah National Park. Old Rag mountain gets its name from the rock from which it's made - a formation known as Old Rag Granite. Thus - Old Rag Fire Road. Visit Ed's PAD and get your daily geography & geology lesson ;>}
