10/8/05 - The Slaughter Bridge

Honorable mention, enhanced prints, 10/18/05, Northern Virginia Photographic Society
Rain, rain, go away. I know that I can do better than recycle images from last week's trip to Vermont - but I don't feel like going out in the constant downpour that we've had for over 24 hours. I did cut a few dahlias, put them in a bud vase, and took about a dozen shots. My wife's "Not dahlias again" sort of said it all.
This is a recycle of http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/50073147 that I'm considering for the club competition's "enhanced image" category. When I tried this category last month for the first time, I bombed - it was the only entry of mine not to get a ribbon. I'm determined to figure this enhanced stuff out, but am not sure if this is headed in the right direction.

Ed...your treatment here gives it a very "antique" look. Almost like the kind of color you might find thumbing through a magazine from the 1950's. Looks very nice to me.

I love the since of age this picture creates, old, warm tones, just like Vermont!!!

Ed, I actually like this better than the original (which looked somewhat saturated to me?). I'm not sure what enhanced means for your club, but it looks like you did this as a sepia, masking out the bridge and then toning down its red. Or something like that. What's especially nice about this treatment is that the muted tones contribute to the sense of age and the feeling of tranquility. I'm not sure that's what you meant, but it seems to be a treatment that suits the subject well. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
