04/28/09 - Blackwater Falls

The falls at full spring flow. The brown in the water is not dirt/silt - that's the color of the water (and why the river is named Blackwater) caused by vegetation decay (largely hemlock) which causes tannin deposits that turn the water coffee/tea colored.
For a more sedate water flow in the fall see - http://www.pbase.com/ed_k/image/104418769
The winter flow is similar to spring - http://ed-k-photo.smugmug.com/gallery/6988948_kjHp8/1/470907430_j4PKF/Original - I like the perspective in this winter image best since it shows the flow from up river leading to the falls (& it's B&W which fits the winter mood).

It looks nice both ways, but I think I prefer the autumn look.
