Took a long detour on my way home to N. Va. from the Pittsburgh, PA area to check out the progress of spring in the mountains. Still a week or two off at the lower elevations; at least a month away up higher. I don't want to miss the dogwoods & redbuds. You can see by the tinges of white (light gray?) on the hillside that the IR is picking up the first signs of foliage. This is at milepost 2 which is near the lowest elevations in the park - close to the Front Royal entrance station.
