1/30/09 - It's about the Lamp; not the Photo

Something from a previous life when I did stained glass as a hobby - probably 20 years before my first point & shoot in 2002. This shade is one of the last things that I did and its been sitting in the garage (& elsewhere) without a stand for most of this time. When I recently bought some textured glass for photo purposes I came across lamp bases - and decided to order one and got it yesterday. I LOVE this lamp. It's a Tiffany reproduction called (I think) The Belted Dogwood. The colors are not anything like those used by Tiffany - just as in photography I heard a different drummer.
It's almost enough to make me want to go back & do glass again - except you quickly run out of places/space to use/display it. Besides, my wife points out that my photography has already outgrown the available space in this house. I left my all time favorite window behind in a house we sold - custom designed/made for a specific window so moving it wasn't practical. I should have asked for visitation privileges. Construction rule of thumb for me - count the number of pieces of glass (about 600 as I recall) and figure 10 minutes per piece from start to finish - or maybe close to 100 hours for this shade (but then I work slow; perfectionists do that).

What a beautiful lamp and congratulations on its construction. I wish I could make stained glass, I would fill my house with it too!
