The hardest thing about this shot was having the beetle stay still during the long-ish exposure of 1/2 second (yeah, I finally did crank up the ISO to 1200 or so but this was the best rendition).
When you're this close with a macro lens (this was a verrry small critter) as small as the beetle was the DOF was even smaller at faster apertures. It was at least f/22 or nothing. All's well that ends well.
