7/16/08 - Blue Ridge Yucca

Atop the Blue Ridge Mountains looking westerly over the Shenandoah Valley toward the Allegheny Mountain range. I'm always surprised by the occasional yucca plant growing up here; they seem out of place.
This was a test to see if I'd gotten any smarter since the last time I tried this shot about two years ago. Then I used a telephoto and stood 10-15 feet away from the plant - don't know why but it probably seemed a good idea at the time. Of course the rest of the image except for the yucca was pretty blurry even stopped way down. This time I took the opposite approach and used a wide angle while positioned as close to the plant as I could and still maintain focus (focused at the hyperfocal distance). Worked much better but could still be sharper. Does that mean that you can teach an old dog new tricks?
