In this representation of the yin-yang, the fighting grizzly bears represent yin, while the fall sourwood leaf represents the yang. Both actually have properties of both sides. The bears have the energy of water and the night sky, but have the action from the fight. The sourwood has the energy of fire and the sun, but the leaf is in its final state before falling to the ground.
