Pear Garden Tea Ceremony

Yuyuan district, Shanghai

One of the highlights of my trip to Shanghai was seeing tea
being made in the traditional way at the Pear Garden Tea House
located in an ornate theatre/opera house. This is close to the
the Yuyuan Gardens, and is often overlooked by tourists. The tea
making ceremony was totally fascinating. The highlight being the
'Romeo and Juliet' tea variety, the tea leaves are rolled into a
ball and when water hot water is poured over them a flower slowly
emerges and floats to the surface. My photos don't do it justice!
