I realise these are not as exotic as some of the bird species posted on PBase. However, some of the more 'common' species in the UK have declined quite alarmingly over the last few years (e.g. sparrows), which is why I've started to feed the garden birds. Hopefully, I'll be able to attract a few more species in the future. At least it will give me a chance to improve my photographic skills!
Update 15 Apr 2007:
Many people are surprised that there are several breeding populations of Ring-necked Parakeets in south-eastern England, centred on south & west London and Thanet (Kent). This green ring-necked Parakeet has just started visiting my garden, which makes an interesting change from sparrows and pigeons!
Alarming decline for the sparrows, huh? Fortunately (roll eyes) someone many years ago decided to import that species from England into the USA. We've got plenty House Sparrows over here if you ever decide you want some back! Ha, ha!
Nice pics -- garden birds can be some of the most enjoyable to photograph because they're "yours" and often hold more vivid memories. Keep up the good work!
