Japanese Gate Infrared

Denver Botanic Gardens

Technical Details for the Bored: Highlights on some of the leaves were completely blown out
in this one! This image is actually a tone-mapped version from the RAW (.NEF) file using a
-2 EV adjustment combined with the "normal" exposure, but even that couldn't rescue the
highlights. Looking forward it'll be interesting to see if using a polarizer to remove
reflections from the leaves can mitigate situations like this, but that depends on the
angle of the sun, doesn't it? Otherwise some good old bracketing may be in order, or
perhaps a multiple-exposure HDR? I dunno, more fun for later! Oh, if you're still reading
the on-board flash was used to help with the shadows in the foreground.
