These are photos of my entry in the classic "Egg Drop" experiment for a Physics class. The task is to drop an egg from a height of 10 meters (just shy of 33-feet). Materials had to cost less than $5 U.S. and parachutes were not allowed. Did my egg survive? Yes it did, even though blustery winds smashed the Minnow III into the side of a concrete wall.
Minnow III was named after Gilligan's boat. What happened to the Minnow II? Alas, it was not so successful. Minnow II was a wire basket design with a suspended cockpit for the egg. The thought was that the wire basket would crumple with impact and thereby provide a negative acceleration to the contraption. Even from 3 meters, the egg cracked every time.
Minnow the first, one presumes, is still on Gilligan's Island.
