A Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris) sits atop the shining new cones on a spruce.
Such new female cones grows upright at first, and when pollinated, they turn to hanging down. They are bright red to begin with, then turn green during summer, and end up as
the commonly known full grown brown cones after their first winter. These cones don't grow every year, but occurs at irregular intervals dependent on nutrition and the years climate.
