As the sun sets, a Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) rests on a cairn around Dalleira, along highway 1, some 6 km east of Reykjahlið/Myvatn.
Whimbrels are quite common in Iceland, and are frequently seen all the way from the coast and far into the interior mountains.
Its beautiful mellow song exudes true peace, floating like a soft lullaby over the barren Icelandic landscape...
