Found a small 3 footer in our friends artificial flower basket on their front porch Superbowl night as the temps were dropping. Looking for warmer hiding place no doubt. I picked up the basket and released it outside in the flower bed. Beautiful colors....

I saw one of these in my backyard; she was *gorgeous* n at least 4' long! My dog found her curled up along fence line, scared her n she started 'running'. I jogged along side of her entire length of yard (not too close) admiring her beauty (kept dog away but know my presence scared her :( ). Im sure was female cuz my bf found a bunch of babies under old, unused dog house -- he killed em with a hoe before he told me bout him; he was SO angry n forbid him to ever do such a thing again!! Sadly, I haven't seen her since.

Found one sleeping in a towel on a rack in my yard. Saw he was harmless so I picked him up and was surprised he had to be a little over five feet. Put him up in the trees I have growing over the fence

I found on of these in my house curled up next to my dog. Thankfully she didn't realise it was there. Is there anything I can do to get it out of the house besides catching it?

I was cleaning brush/weeds from around base of a Crape Myrtle bush and saw this snake slither up into the dense foliage. As I cut back the bush I noticed it had taken up residence in an abandoned birds nest, all curled up and cozy. I didn't know whether to kill it or not. I found your site and it is non-venomous; I will leave her alone. I live in Central Florida.
Thx for your website, super pics!

I found one of these wrapped around my drill charging trying to keep warm. Freaked me out until I looked it up. Set him out in a local grove. Not a snake fan but respect life u

Just saw my first Red Rat Snake by my pond in Sumterville, Fl. (Central)
It must have been a baby because it was only about as big around as my finger and 12 inches long. Sadly it was killed by our Yorkie Elee who is a veracious hunter. It is a beautiful snake.

Hi,
My name is Gene from Key Largo. Your picture of the Rat Snake is great. We have one in our yard and I great photos last night.

That's correct, Debbie. They also eat birds and their eggs occasionally. Immature Red Rat snakes will eat lizards and tree frogs as well. If you see one, you will probably see others. It all depends on the population of these snakes in your area. Please visit www.floridabackyardsnakes.com for more on Florida snakes.
