Ye Olde Photographer took a pottery class at the local high school adult evening school session in spring 2005. The long term goal is to make some bonsai pots. The short term goal was to have fun and see if it's even possible. For starters, We have learned that throwing pots on a wheel is a lot harder than it looks!
In spite of general klutziness, YOP managed to produce a few items. As luck would have it, we were not doing "high-fired" (stoneware) pottery which is the norm for bonsai pots that stay outdoors in winter. Lower fired earthenware will probably work OK for semi-tropicals that come indoors for the winter, so we waded right in and tried some stuff. The general techniques should apply for either type.
As with other things in life, the first year or two is probably spent learning how many gazillion things there are that one didn't even know he didn't know. The experience was great fun as a creative exercise; very satisfying.
