Mary Jemison

The final resting place of this woman, with a statue commissioned
by Letchworth to remember her. She was a white woman, kidnapped as
a teenager and adopted by Indians. Her family had been killed in
the unrest of the French and Indian War going on when she was taken
in 1758. She endured a long and hard frontier life but actually stayed
with the Seneca when hostilities ended. She lived to the age of 90!
