Conway, a town about 20 miles inland from Myrtle Beach is a modest size city along the Waccamaw River. There is a section of the town with some wonderful historic homes and some awesome live oak trees. On at least one street, the curbing actually loops out around some monstrous oaks, narrowing the street to one lane, but avoiding removal of these magnificent trees.
On one day of our visit, Ye Olde Photographer's sister surprised him and his Faire Spouse with a boat tour on the Waccamaw River which goes through the town. A century earlier steamboats plied that river with passengers and freight. The town has a riverwalk along part of the river and the town center has an interesting assortment of shops and restaurants. Capt. Jim spent his early years growing up playing in the swamps along the Waccamaw and has some great stories about the area. The boat is electric and free of the noise and fumes from diesel and gasoline power. It was a very pleasant and interesting experience.
