Colorado

Ye Olde Photographer and his Faire Spouse only criss-crossed this state, enjoying some spectacular scenery and some interesting towns along the way on both legs of our Grand Tour. On our outbound trip we crossed the eastern border on Interstate 70, traveling west with a stop at Limon to check out a museum and have lunch. Thence continued on I-70 and wound up in Golden, west of Denver. After two nights there, we connected again with I-70 and crossed the Rocky Mountains to Grand Junction. That portion was hampered a bit by rain to set a mood as we passed through the amazingly rugged and craggy mountains. We had lunch in Grand Junction, then continued on into Utah on I-70.

On the return leg of our trip we approached the state through New Mexico, crossing the southern border and staying two nights in a B&B in Antonito. Between those two nights we rode the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railway on a narrow gauge steam-powered trip over Cumbres Pass to Chama New Mexico, returning late that afternoon by motorcoach. A long but very pleasant day chugging through remote mountain scenery on a revitalized segment of the former Denver & Rio Grand Western Railroad.

Our visit to Colorado was part of the Grand Tour 2016, a 5800 mile drive through flyover country!
