The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is a reincarnation of the Denver, Rio Grand & Western that loops back and forth across the Colorado/New Mexico border as it travels from Antonito, Colorado to Chama, New Mexico. This is a narrow gage line with the original motive power from Baldwin, circa 1925. The route is quite a serpentine affair as it climbs over Cumbres Pass slightly above 10,000 feet in elevation. The trip takes a goodly portion of a day, 64 miles of twisting route with a lunch stop in the middle. We chose the east to west trip with motor coach return. One can also ride west to east, or ride steam to the middle then board the steam powered run from the other direction for the return leg, experiencing all steam, but half the route.
We shall lead off with a small selection of B&W shots Ye Olde Photographer took with his Yashica Mat 124G TLR . And follow up with a selection of color images.
This was part of the Grand Tour 2016, a 5800 mile drive through flyover country!
