At the end of September 2023 Ye Olde Photographer and his Faire Spouse joined friends in Carlisle, a town somewhere near halfway between us. The guys have always like trains and the Cumberland County Historical Society had an exhibit up on the history of railroads in the area. There was even a model railroad layout that hinted at scenes and businesses once found in the area. We were impressed at the size and quality of the museum space.
Carlisle is the home of Dickinson College and has quite an assortment of eating places typical of a college town. It is also the home of the US Army Heritage and Education Center (formerly the Army War College). The fairgrounds in the town is also home to some antique and classic car shows and auctions, held annually.
There are parks and many structures of 19th century vintage, nice place to walk around. We had an excellent lunch in a brew pub barely a block from the Historical Society.
