Carmen was born Trevor Rupe or similar name in a small town in New Zealand.
When she came out as Carmen,
times were tough in that era.
She persisted, opened her own business helping others along the way.
In later life she moved to Australia.
During her life Carmen was well recognised and accepted.
She always gave of her time and was known for her generosity and support
for many people and causes.
In the olden days when I worked as a Cab driver,
Carmen hired my cab to take her to the hairdressers
100 yards down the road from her home.
On arriving she insisted I join her
and she paid for the best ever hairdo I have ever had.
She made her mark in the world and now passed on
she is remembered for the barriers she helped to push aside for acceptance of diversity.
