Sylvia was a great woman...she passed in 1993.Check her bio on the internet. I was in the same grade as her throughout elementary school(Elgin)and knew her then. Her gift of oratory and writing was already evident in grade 5 when she was one the best speech writers back when we all had to give one of those dreaded speeches in front of the class. She gave one entitled "The Dying Art" about the west coast Aboriginal totem pole carvers.Why I remember that I don't know. The depth of that girl then was clear.I felt I was in the company of a mischievous adult posing in the body of a young girl. Sylvia's grandfather was none other than Mr.George Leonard Campbell,the tough-as-nails principal of Elgin Avenue Public School for many years,a veteran of Canada's army in WW ll,and the best math teacher (grade 8)that I ever had. God's love shine on you both...
