Well obviously this reply is not ASAP as have not been looking at my pbase account for a while. Not really sure what is wrong with your lens. At first I thought it could be a sticky aperture but then the problem would not be focus but exposure... I hope you were able to return it because something definitely is not right. Good luck.

nice car! i test drove one and found it to be very sporty. You seem to have a good combo in the a900 with a Minolta 50mm 1.4 I copied you. My lens may not be working properly though. I just got a Minolta Maxxum AF 50mm f/1:1.4(22) with 5 electronic pins serial # 55102933 and need a question about how it should function on my perfectly good a900 answered A.S.A.P. so I can return it to the seller if need be! It does NOT Auto Focus unless it is 'AUTO' mode and then only opens up to a max of F/2.0.
In other modes I can use the camera body dial to select f/1.4 but then there is NO AF! Is this normal or is there a lens problem?
This finding is with the ISO set at 100 in a dark room.
How well does your lens function when not just taking snap shots?
