Granite

About 15 miles along Highway 7 from Sumpter is the ghost town of Granite. During the gold rush, about 5000 people lived here, but now it's very sparsely populated. Pictured here is the Granite School, built in 1888. It leans slightly to the right to compensate for the steep slope of the hill that it's built on.
