This image shows approximately the western half of a supernova remnant that lies about 2400 light years from Earth and is seen from here in the constellation Cygnus. The bright star near the top of the image is 52 Cygni, a magnitude 4 star visible to the naked eye from Earth in moderately light-polluted skies. The filamentous structure below 52 Cygni is called the "Witches Broom". Below and to the left of the Witches Broom is the nebulous feature commonly called "Pickering's Triangle". The remainder of the Veil Nebula complex, known as the Eastern Veil Nebula, lies outside of and below the frame of this image.
