Don, Thank you for this wonderful explanation of a not very well published subject. Using your information I have at last been able to pull out information from my astro DSLR images, that up to now have been mediocre at best. As primarily a terrestrial photographer your work has advanced my knowledge of digital camera sensor characteristics in a straightforward method. Thank you sir!

Don: I want to thank you for posting this exceptionally clear and concise explanation of a complex subject. I have been a visual astronomer for many years but started doing planetary AP with video last year and have now begun DSO AP. It is much more challenging but your explanation of "how it's done" is the most straightforward I have seen. Thanks for taking the time to distill the experience of what must have been many years of hard work down to these basic and fundamental lessons for us newbies.
