SPS Saturday

Lake Milton, Ohio

Spent the entire day on Lake Milton trying to throw one another off this tube. Hurtling ourselves at 30 MPH across the water behind our boat, laughing and having a good time.

What most impressed me about these shots is my daughter Kayla had herself perched on a moving boat with a Nikon 70/200 shooting away to get some pretty great photos. Balancing hitting wakes, fast turns and having a boat anchor around your neck is a talent unto itself! Secretly I hope that one of my kids will fall into love with my passion of Photography but todays kids are Instagram warriors. Not cool to lug a dslr around when your iPhone can get some pretty incredible photos too.

I am grateful for this time with my family on the water and these photos, regardless who takes them to capture these days

iPhones can fluke some decent photos, more than take them. It's the same with my old Samsung Galaxy S2; yes, it could get some pretty good shots if the scene was an easy one to shoot, but when things get more complicated you want something a little more substantial on hand. (My current Galaxy Ace is a piece of garbage as a camera, and barely any better as a smartphone come to that.) It's why so much on Instagram (and Flickr, for that matter) is dross. I despair that the concept of instant photos everywhere is just going to become another aspect of society becoming less discriminating as the levels of information become overwhelming. It's already happened with writing, where people these days often don't distinguish between an article from the Washington Post or the Australian Financial Review, and an opinion piece from "Some Guy's Blog". Writing and photography have been democratised, but that doesn't mean that everything is of equal quality. With photography, media organisations are putting the axe through photojournalists on the assumption that some guy with an iPhone can give them the same results.
Ooops, soapbox.
This shot is very good; the capture of your expression, and the freezing of the water in motion are both very well done.
