she is talking to a noise generator. It is a thing that makes various sounds such as thunderstorms, birds singing, streams running, white noise, and the ever popular heartbeat.

We have found that the heart beat sound, played at loud volumes even calms a deaf child enough to fall asleep. (unless of course she has decided to practice talking to it.)
