It's simpler than it looks. If you can adjust your valves, you can replace your PRT seals. If you’ve never adjusted your own valves, you should probably wait to do this job at a tech day, with the assistance of a more experienced mechanic.
This is the "shortcut" version of the job, leaving the head attached to the jug and the piston and rings seated in the cylinder bore.
Caveats –
• There are several steps where getting it wrong can cause some serious damage. If you attempt this procedure, you’re assuming responsibility for the welfare of your engine and the safe operation of your motorcycle. If you aren’t confident about proceeding, consult a more experienced mechanic or your BMW dealer.
• Use new parts: base gasket, large & small o-rings, circlips or wire clips. Don’t economize on parts or materials; you won’t do this job often, so don’t cut corners.
• Work on one side at a time.
