I did not try any other apertures unfortunately, as the SLR concept was still new to me 6 months ago (still is I suppose) and I just wanted to see what f/2.8 looked like from this Sigma lense which I'm quite fond of. If there is any composition skill visible there, it was purely luck or immagination maybe... Anyway, the background is unacceptable to me at this poit as well, but I had it saved in my samples folder, and so decided to enter it just for fun.
The winner of this challenge, Skyredoubt (Peter) and I do often share ideas and comments on the forum. He's got a much more original approach, whereas I'm just trying to learn as many "rules" of photography as I can for now. I like the concept (narrow centre in focus) but the angle makes it difficult to read the "get it now" message. I'd suggest placing the phone on a black background (I keep a black covered sheet of cardboard just for macros) and then tilting the background so that you can get a more heads-on angle to the central message. Clever idea.

I'm cool with the deliberate narrowness of the focal plane, although I'd prefer a plainer surrounding to avoid distractions. Good subject idea all the same, along with a good title.

I like the perspective, however your focus plane is just a tad narrow - did you take any shots at higher apertures?
