Cotton Hill Plantation home
by Jim Sims

a leading line to an incredible find #1

When I first read about this home, in 2003, the reports that I read (published in the early twentieth century) reported that Cotton Hill, located in Limestone County had burned twice during the nineteenth century and only ruins remained. When I discovered the entrance to the property in about 2012, I questioned its authenticity, and decided that it was either a modern coincidence, at best, and possibly a fraud. Fortunately, I was very wrong. The current owner, Cecil Armstrong, purchased this property, that included the Cotton Hill home - dilapidated, unoccupied, ancient dwelling, and in desperate need of major restoration. Mr. Armstrong recognized the historical significance of Cotton Hill and with an impassioned commitment to save it, he has garnered the assistance from National, State, and local historical agencies as well as conducting meticulous historical research on his own. He has prosicuted the restoration of this artifact, Slowly, carefully, and deliberately. Much of its past may be lost. But I believe that Mr. Armstrong is leaving nothing to chance, and nothing will be included that has not been thoroughly researched. Rarely, have these antebellum homes been subjected to this level of scrutiny.

The leading lines are nice, but I wish there was less of the road in front and more of the house. Also the power line (I assume that is what it is) is a bit distracting to me.

A lovely shot with very nice perspective, Jim. How wonderful to discover such a treasure.
