One of my favorite places to shoot, is along the 45 bypass here in New London. There are so many different birds that can be found along there if you just take the time to look.
I have never really got a good shot of a Great Blue Heron, as they are rather skittish, but one day I lucked out and there was one fairly close to the road and it sat long enought for me to get a half way decent shot of it.

I'm beginning to think its more about luck than skill.
