Sad Eye

The vet said eventually we will need to remove what is left of the bad eye and sew the eye shut. I am told they can live happy lives with one eye. The cat that lives at the veterinary clinic is blind and relies on other senses to get around. So I would say one eye is alot better than none at all. The good eye, a beautiful blue, tends to look red at times depending on how the light is hitting it.

We had a cat that lost his eye at 1 year old, and he lived a very normal life to 16 yrs. old! His eye also had to eventually be removed and stitched closed. The can do just fine with only 1 eye!

Zoey looks like she is improving every day. Your mention of her good blue eye shining red depending on how the light hits it brought back something I learned about cats and eye colors. Cats without blue eyes have an area in the back of their eye called the tapetum lucidum. It reflects light, I believe, onto the retina, and you see a bright yellowish white light reflected from their eye when light hits it. Blue eyed cats do not have a tapetum lucidum and this results in a reddish reflection when light hits the eye.
