The Verde Valley is the home of many ranches and on each of those ranches there is at least one stock pond. During the winter these ponds serve as sources of water for stock and wintering birds. As they begin to dry up after the monsoon rains end in August fewer exist and numerous species of birds flock to those that still have water. Here are some of those bird species.
