Bab Sharqi (Eastern Gate)

The Bab Sharqi (Eastern Gate), which the Romans called the Gate of the Sun. It is the oldest surviving monument in Damascus, from the 2nd - 3rd century AD. There used to be many gates, 8 are still in existence, this is the only one that has its old aspect. It was restored under the French Mandate.
