The three boys playing with birds in the acanthus border of the Church of the Apostles at Madaba are also copied from well-known classical motifs. The scene on the west side, depicting a boy on a toy wagon drawn by a pair of pheasants, imitates a chariot race in a hippodrome. -- Piccirillo p41
