I like the museum mainly for its large collection of superior woodwork from long ago (5 to 7 centuries), mainly from religious buildings. Over the years I have taken many pictures of those. In 2019 I added a lot, and for that reason transferred earlier ones to this sub-gallery.
The new pictures showed that I erred considerably in early work, giving many objects much too red a colour. I use the recent pictures to edit the old ones, and so people who used the old ones as reference will be surprised. The old ones went more for details, I hope the old and new together provide a good ensemble. One last remark: I often prefer to take pictures without artificial light. Only general lights were on when I took a first set, then a guard switched on extra lights and I cannot deny that made photography easier. The first set has a bit too much green, the second is more true. I am never really satisfied, so I do complain about glare we see on some pictures (reflection from elsewhere, maybe the floor?), as well as about the Perspex sheets protecting the lower half of many objects. But I know how many visitors to museums somehow have an urge to touch an object (what is the use? Do you need to touch the wood to know it’s wood? Do you want to make a mental connection with earlier generations? You’re slowly eroding an object that will live longer than you, so abstain from touching). So I accept the Perspex. To tell the truth, I even went to the directorate in Topkapı museum, Istanbul, after I saw people taking selfies with the soles of their shoes touching invaluable Iznik tiles on the Circumcision pavilion, to show how well they connected with culture. Now there is Perspex.
