In this gallery I show pictures of what you might see at or near the sacred ponds (Gölbaşı) in Şanlıurfa. Their fame has to do with the fact that according to legend the patriarch Abraham was saved here from death. He was supposedly catapulted from the “kale” or citadel up the hill under the reign of King Nimrod. However, the fire he was to have landed in turned to water and the woods making up the fire into fish.

A number of mosques is built in the vicinity of this pool, and another one close by near what supposedly is the birthplace of the prophet in a cave. Note this is a gallery within a larger one about the city.
