Apse of the evangelists’' church. Note the altar-like piece on the foreground left, with a cross that stands out so clear it looks as if it has been cleaned in particular.

Slightly shifted perspective.

The apse had a double row of seats, named ‘synthronon’, where the monks sat during services. In its center there was a larger seat for the bishop or abbot. In front of it stood a large altar (that has disappeared since). The small alter on the side was used for the monks’s private masses.
